Book 1 in the USA Today Bestselling McMaster the Disaster series.

Josephine McMaster is pretty and smart, but very much a klutzy mess. Finally, at 26, she may have actually lost the dreaded ‘McMaster the Disaster’ nickname that has followed her around her whole life.

Josie’s quite content to be single, much to her mother’s disappointment. So when a bizarre contest is announced where a socialite is holding a lottery to pick her bridesmaids (and rake in a little extra cash), she can’t roll her eyes fast enough, even if it does mean meeting Jake Hall, her one and only movie star crush. Obviously, Josie doesn’t enter the bridesmaid lottery, so you can imagine her surprise when her picture pops up among the winners, thanks to Mom. With a little prodding -- okay bribing -- Josie agrees to participate.

The wedding turns into the event of the year, and Josie finds herself in the middle of a paparazzi feeding frenzy, which gets even crazier after Jake Hall takes a special interest in her.

Can Josie handle the pressure in the spotlight? Is it possible she might really have a chance with Jake Hall? And if she’s busy worrying about all that, how in the heck is she going to keep ‘McMaster the Disaster’ from showing up in front of the entire world?

Bridesmaid Lotto McMaster the Disaster Book 1 eBook Rachel Astor

I really thought I was going to like this book. It seemed to have all the right ingredients: hot movie actor, fun sidekick, and unsure of herself heroine. So, the premise of the story is a contest to participate in a socialite's wedding and win a spot as a bridesmaid. Bonus: one of the groomsmen is a hot movie star, Jake Hall, and he's looking to settle down. Our heroine, Josie aka McMaster The Disaster, does not want to participate in the contest dubbed the "Bridesmaid Lotto" but her mother has entered her in the contest without her knowledge.

The story line that deals with the contest is actually not bad. There are characters you will love to hate and some you can't be sure you can trust. There's even a bit of a twist at the end where the heroine is betrayed by someone close to her.

The part I had a huge problem with is the romance. What romance???? Very little is devoted to the interaction of Jake and Josie and in the end I couldn't understand why either person felt anything for the other. I just didn't care about what happened in their "love story" since both characters fell pretty flat. Josie is so insecure she needs reassurance to walk out of the door. I would have found it exhausting to be friends with someone so needy let alone find her fascinating enough to fall in love with. The only thing we know about Jake by the end of the book is that he is a down to earth, famous, hot, sexy, movie star that is in love with Josie. He has absolutely no substance and since everything is written awkwardly in first person Josie, you never get any insight into his thought process.

I finished the whole book but it was not without pain and I would not recommend this book. Even with the gigantic cliff hanger at the end that is supposed to tempt me into reading the next book in the series ... I am just not interested.

Bridesmaid Lotto McMaster the Disaster Book 1 eBook Rachel Astor Reviews

This review could possibly contain spoilers...I wanted to like this book as the summary sounded funny and entertaining. However, I have to wonder if a proofreader was utilized or at the very least, did the author re-read her own work? Grammatical errors such as incorrect subject/verb agreement and incorrect use of object pronouns were noted throughout the book. As well as the grammatical errors, there were storyline "flow" problems (e.g., When the lotto was announced, according to the book, Jake Hall was going to be a groomsman. However, the next chapter other characters refer to him wanting to find a girlfriend from the wedding party and "settle down." I had go back and re-read the previous chapters to see if I missed where it was said he was looking to create a relationship with one of the bridesmaids. Nope, I did not miss it. The information was not earlier in the book.) The author also makes "flow" errors. For instance, referencing two characters were going to "lounge out by the pool until Jake woke up" yet the next paragraph says Josie (the main character)was calling into work as sick with Jake listening next to her???

Regarding the actual story, Mattie (Josie's best guy friend) steals the show. He is written as a funny, supportive character. Josie, however, has such negative self esteem her character just comes across unlikable. She even thinks that Jake, someone described as sensitive, nice, and genuine, will hate her when he finds out embarrassing incidences (like passing gas, getting locked out of her apartment with a robe on). Very unbelievable if the guy truly cares for her.

Again, I liked the premise of the book, but the grammatical errors, the flow book, and characters just made it too difficult to enjoy the book. I'm just glad I purchased this book as a FREE download.
At 26 years old, Josephine aka Josie has her life finally on track, there is just one thing missing according to her mother - a boyfriend. Josie is content with her life and happy so why can't everyone else be. When a contest is announced that a Socialite is getting married and hoping to have ten lucky women as her bridesmaids , a bridesmaid lottery is opened and each girl gets their fifteen minutes of fame. Josie but can't help roll her eyes at this, who would be so desperate for fame and attention that they would sign up and join a stranger's bridal party. The whole world around Josie is buzzing , what happens next though will send Josie's life on a spin as her mother has gone behind her back and entered her into the lottery. Josie is one of the ten chosen bridesmaids and this may also be her chance at winning a date with the hunky actor Jake Hall - a actor crush of hers. The thing though is that Josie has a secret - she is an absolute klutz and right through school her nickname was McMaster the Disaster. Will Josie find a way to embarrass herself in front of her new crowd ? During this book we also are presented with diary entries of Josie's which detail some of her klutzier moments and relate to her inner feelings about Jake. What will happen though when someone Josie trusted leaks her dirty laundry and private thoughts to the media ? Will this be the end of Josie and Jake or will he be the gentleman and shrug it off and go any publicty is good publicty ?. What I liked about Bridesmaid Lotto, is that despite the light-heartedness of the story, it does give readers the view of what can happen when one of you becomes famous and that often someone you trusted or thought was your friend, will get jealous and turn their backs on you. If you are wanting a fun light-hearted romance that has the feel of Reality TV to it , then check out Bridesmaid Lotto by Rachel Astor. Alot of reviewers have written about how they found this book to be cliched, but in my view sometimes we readers need something cliched and light to read and sometimes the treasures hide in the cliched piles.
