How many times have you had that overpowering urge to leave it all behind and sail off to a tropical island? The desire of the ordinary landlubber to go to sea is as old as mankind itself. Here is the true story of how my wife and I became captured by the powerful allure of the sea. This is book one of a four book series. 'Quest and Crew' begins hours before a hurricane of unimaginable destructive force obliterates the south shore of Grenada. Luckily, Quest survives without a scratch. It’s a story about how life's many twists and turns, fortune and disaster, can change your path but make you stronger. In chapter three you will discover how Quest gained a new lease on life with a complete retrofit in the backwoods of our home in North Carolina. Soon you will be off to North Palm Beach, Florida. On a clear starry night, we leave America behind and sail over the horizon on a hope enveloped by a dream. We are at the beginning of our new adventure. Sailing and anchoring one island at a time, we earn our stripes the hard way as we cruise through the northern Bahamas. ‘Quest and Crew’ is a glimpse into the powerful attraction of sailboats and sapphire water. It is all about the joy of success as well as what it takes to overcome the occasional disaster. From beginning to end, the book is about transforming a rookie crew and beautiful old boat into a sailing adventure. Come for the hurricane, stay for the story.

I enjoyed it so much I am a third through the follow up book. I owned four racing yachts over the years and can appreciate all his work in rebuilding and maintaining these darlings of the water. Looking forward to his Caribbean adventures as I have sailed through those islands and have lived for 11 years in the Dominican Republic.

Quest and Crew A True Sailing Adventure eBook David Beaupre Reviews

This is mostly foreplay. But humorous, insightful foreplay. It's what comes of beginning to learn about boats, sailing and travel late in life and savoring every minute of it!
Thought it was a confidence booster. It proves anyone can start sailing and learn as they go. Was disappointed that it only covered their travels in the Bahamas once they left the US.
I don’t have a boat nor do I think that I will ever go sailing to the Caribbean. I bought the book because the author promised it to be a ‘fast paced adventure story set in Paradise’. I was hooked from the first chapter. What struck me was how well the author described the many problems that he encountered getting an old boat prepared for sea. He does it with humor and a good dollop of sarcasm. But what I liked the most was that he never gave up, even when the going was hard. It is always good to read a true account of someone who succeeds. From this perspective it is a very upbeat story that was very inspiring. I absolutely recommend this ‘sailing adventure’.
I mostly read non fiction. This is a really good read. My wife read it on the kindle then I bought the paperback. It is a cleverly written account of how a couple bought a boat and sailed down to the Caribbean from North Florida. It is not just another boring log of a boat journey. Beaupre doesn't waste a lot of words. The story moves along at a fast pace. He has a very good way of making the simplest or the most complex task seem doable by the average person. The book is also very funny. Some of his deadpan lines are priceless. It won't take you very long to get into his sense of humor. It is about as good a book as I have read in some time. The star rating system that uses for reviews is a bit limited, but I'd give Quest and Crew five stars.
This was a page turner, and I loved the author’s humor and relaxed attitude about their adventure. I would like to do the same, and my husband is just counting the days for my retirement date to catch up with his. Ready to sail south with them in the next book!
On reflection, based on the story-lines, I guess this wasn't really as good a book as some more adventurous sailing books I've read, but the author writes so well, I could hardly put it down.
Well, this is a fresh look at cruising. The author, with whom I have communicated, takes an unvarnished look at the cruising life. It is helpful to get that look at things. My family made a similar cruise in 1960 and 1961 after a two year rebuild and preparation. It was an amazing trip in every way and we remember it that way. I also remember clearly the down side to so many parts if the trip. No reason to stay home. Plenty of reason to be sure of your self sufficiency. David Beaupre subtly writes about the value of being self sufficient in every respect. In that regard, cruisers to be will benefit from the read. I simply enjoyed his ability to spin a yarn. Book Two, up next!
